Cocktail Runs with Rono is an exclusive, high-impact afternoon event tailored to help high-achieving professionals balance fitness and career. The event includes a technical talk on discipline, a personal journey narrative, and an engaging fireside chat with me, a fitness enthusiast, recreational runner, and recent finisher of the 128th Boston Marathon. Guest speakers, who are experts in both career and fitness, will also share their insights, making it an enriching experience for those looking to excel in both areas.

Meet the Panelists

Cate Gachanja

Meet Cate, a powerhouse of positivity and endurance. A natural Sunshine Yellow, she’s completed 55 marathons since starting at 42, driven by her daily runs and a 365-challenge now in its sixth year. Adventurous and resilient, Cate has summited Point Lenana 12 times and lives by the mantra of giving more to gain more, seizing volunteer opportunities wherever she goes.

A mentor and lifelong learner, Cate’s on a mission to read 30 books this year while guiding her daughter into college life. By night, she’s crafting a PhD proposal on Design Thinking in the Banking Industry. With three publications to her name and certifications in leadership, Cate thrives in her role at The Rockefeller Foundation, Africa Regional Office, where she promotes global well-being. Beyond her professional life, she enjoys cycling, swimming, golf, traveling, cooking, and gardening—always open to new adventures.

Isaac Mabwago

Born and raised in Kisii, Kenya, moved to Nairobi in 2010 for Kenyatta University, where he excelled in badminton and table tennis, eventually joining the Kenya National Badminton team in 2014. When the world shut down in 2020 due  to COVID, Isaac turned to running for fitness, quickly falling in love with the sport. His journey began with the Standard Chartered Marathon in 2020, leading him to races across Kenya, East and South Africa, including the Kilimanjaro Marathon, Comrades Marathon, Kigali Marathon, and the 2023 Dubai Marathon. In March 2024, he achieved a personal best of 2:28 at the Tokyo Marathon a one star in the journey to 6 stars of the World Marathon Majors.

A professional statistician with an MBA in Project Management, Isaac is also the founder of Badeqshop, a premier sports apparel store. Beyond his professional and athletic pursuits, he is passionate about mentoring youth, helping them harness their sports talents and shape their futures. Isaac’s story is one of relentless dedication and inspiring achievement, both on and off the track.



Brian Ngunjiri

He is a Partner with PwC, bringing over 17 years of experience in delivering financial and regulatory audits, along with business advisory services, to a diverse range of clients across Kenya, the United Kingdom, and now Rwanda. He began his journey with PwC as a Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology graduate. He is committed to providing exceptional value and high-quality client services in his current role. He has successfully led PwC’s Financial Services industry group in Kenya and the East Africa region, driving the group’s growth and maximising opportunities across six countries.

Passionate about career coaching and team leadership, he has been recognised as a People Champion within the firm. He has spearheaded firm-wide events for both clients and staff and continues to contribute to staff development and motivation initiatives actively.

Additionally, he has conducted risk and quality reviews in several African countries, enhancing audit and advisory standards across the continent. Brian has completed marathons in Berlin (twice), London, Boston, and Vienna



Hildabeta Amiani

Hilda, also known as HilyPily, is a seasoned professional with over 20 years of experience in the airline industry, primarily in the commercial division. Her expertise spans e-commerce and digital platforms as distribution channels, and she has held various key roles, including Marketing Manager for East Africa, Business Development Manager, and Pricing and Revenue Manager. She currently serves as the Country Sales Manager for Kenya.

Hilda thrives on developing and coaching teams to achieve success, and she has led several change initiatives within her company. Outside of her corporate role, she is passionate about marathon running, having participated in races in Vienna, Dubai, Berlin, and London. As Chairlady of the Runfit Club, she leads a group of nearly 100 recreational runners, exemplifying leadership in both her career and fitness endeavours.



William Dekker

William Dekker is an all-round communications expert with extensive experience in designing and executing PR strategies for intergovernmental organisations, government ministries, multinational companies, and nonprofits. With key competencies in Information Communication Technology, he excels at leading creative and digital teams to craft impactful communication and marketing campaigns that resonate with local and global audiences. Complemented by his journalism background, William possesses strong media relations skills and a deep understanding of the regional media landscape, maintaining close ties with local journalists, editors, and writers. He is also a creative writer, scriptwriter for film and documentaries, video editor, graphics designer, web developer, and social media strategy trainer.

In recognition of his excellence, William was named Young PR Professional of the Year by the Public Relations Society of Kenya in 2021 and 2019.
